ORDINANCE _________________
AN ORDINANCE relating to the Police Department; authorizing the execution of agreements with the United States for financial assistance in the total amount of Two Hundred Seventy Five Thousand Dollars ($275,000) for continuation of the Weed and Seed
Program in the East Precinct; accepting the money when received; increasing the 1999 Budgets of the Police Department, the Department of Human Services, and the Health Department; and making a reimbursable appropriation therefor; all by a three-fourths
vote of the City Council.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF SEATTLE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. As requested by the Chief of Police, the Chief of Police or his designee is authorized to execute for and on behalf of The City of Seattle, an agreement with the United States Department of Justice for financial assistance in the amount of
One Hundred Seventy Five Thousand Dollars ($175,000) for continuation of the Weed and Seed Program in the East Precinct. The funds, when received, are hereby accepted, and shall be deposited to the credit of the Supplemental Appropriations Account of
the Emergency Subfund to reimburse for the appropriation made in Section 2.
The Chief of Police or his designee is further authorized to execute for and on behalf of The City of Seattle, an agreement with the United States Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation for financial assistance for joint law enforcement
operations in the Weed and Seed project area in the East Precinct, including expansion to Broadway, in the amount of One Hundred Thousand Dollars ($100,000). The funds, when received, are hereby accepted, and shall be deposited to the credit of the
Supplemental Appropriations Account of the Emergency Subfund to reimburse for the appropriation made in Section 2.
Section 2. To carry out the purposes of the grant agreements authorized in Section 1, and contingent upon the execution of those agreements, the following program categories in the 1999 Budgets of the following departments are increased as follows:
Police
P40 Operations Bureau $162,499
Human Services
H12 Family and Youth Services $97,501
Health
V7H10 Seattle Services $15,000
For such purposes, the sum of Two Hundred Seventy Five Thousand Dollars ($275,000) is hereby appropriated from the Supplemental Appropriations Account of the Emergency Subfund for the purposes outlined above. The Supplemental Appropriations Account of
the Emergency Subfund shall be reimbursed from funds to be received from the United States Department of Justice, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, as authorized in Section 1. The appropriation of the funds in this ordinance shall carry
forward from year to year unless expressly abandoned by ordinance.
Section 3. Any act consistent with the authority and prior to the effective date of this ordinance is hereby ratified and confirmed.
Section 4. The foregoing appropriation is made to meet actual necessary expenditures of the City for which no appropriation has been made due to causes which could not reasonably have been foreseen at the
time of the adoption of the 1999 Budget in accordance with RCW 35.32A.060. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force thirty (30) days from and after its approval by the Mayor, but if not approved and returned by the Mayor within ten (10) days
after presentation, it shall take effect as provided by Municipal Code Section 1.04.020.
