COUNCIL BILL __________________
AN ORDINANCE relating to City streets; changing the name of the portion of Aurora Avenue North between Denny Way and Harrison Street to 7th Avenue North, and changing the name of the portion of Aurora Avenue between Battery Street and Denny Way to
Borealis Avenue; and superseding prior ordinances to the extent inconsistent.
WHEREAS, the South Lake Union Community Council, the South Lake Union Chamber of Commerce, the Uptown Alliance, and other neighboring stakeholder groups have requested that The City of Seattle change the name of portions of Aurora Avenue North in
conjunction with the completion of the North Surface Streets portion of the Washington State Department of Transportation’s Alaskan Way Viaduct replacement project, which will rebuild these portions of Aurora Avenue North; and
WHEREAS, these portions of Aurora Avenue North and Aurora Avenue were historically known as “7th Avenue” and were changed to Aurora Avenue North and Aurora Avenue by the State of Washington in preparation to build the Alaskan Way Viaduct;
and
WHEREAS, City departments have reviewed this proposal and agree that no significant, negative impacts would result from this proposal; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF SEATTLE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The name of the portion of Aurora Avenue North between Denny Way and Harrison Street, located between Blocks 69 and 78, between Blocks 70 and 77, and between Blocks 71 and 76, D. T. Denny’s Park Addition to North Seattle as recorded in
Volume 2 of Plats, page 46, is changed to 7th Avenue North, superseding prior ordinances to the extent inconsistent.
Section 2. The name of a portion of Aurora Avenue between Battery Street and Denny Way, located in Block W, Bell’s 6th Addition to the City of Seattle as recorded in Volume 2 of Plats, page 20, is changed to Borealis Avenue, superseding Ordinance
104968 and any other prior ordinances to the extent inconsistent.
Section 3. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force on March 8, 2019, or 30 days after its approval by the Mayor, whichever is later, but if not approved and returned by the Mayor within ten days after presentation, it shall take effect as
provided by Seattle Municipal Code Section 1.04.020.
