What is in the Seattle Municipal Code?

The Seattle Municipal Code is a classified compilation of the general and permanent ordinances of the City of Seattle. It does not contain all permanent ordinances, however. The Code does not currently contain City law contained in the building, fire, electrical, mechanical, and boiler codes.

Print copies of these related codes are available in the Seattle City Clerk's Office.

What about older versions of the code?

The version of the Seattle Municipal Code provided here is the most current available. Older municipal codes are available in print form in the Seattle City Clerk's Office.

What is included in the electronic version of the code?

The electronic version of the Seattle Municipal Code provided on the Clerk's Online Information site contains all the words in the code, as well as diagrams and location maps in Title 23, the Land Use Code. This version does not include zoning maps, or graphics from parts of the code other than Title 23.

Note to users of the published, paper SMC: The Seattle City Clerk’s online version of the SMC is updated more frequently and reflects more recent legislation than the printed version.
