A RESOLUTION authorizing the submission of a grant application to the United States Department of Justice, Executive Office for Weed and Seed for financial assistance under the Weed and Seed Program in the approximate amount of Two Hundred Twenty Five Thousand Dollars ($225,000) to continue to revitalize neighborhoods in Central Seattle.

WHEREAS, Council Bill 113587, if passed, will authorize the Chief of Police to enter into agreements for and on behalf of The City of Seattle for financial assistance in the 2000 application cycle from the United States Department of Justice and the United States Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation in the total amount of $225,000 for the Weed and Seed Program in Central Seattle; and

WHEREAS, the United States Department of Justice has advised the Seattle Police Department that a limited amount of additional funding is available to fund program activities in 2001 and beyond; and

WHEREAS, the application deadline for the 2001 application cycle is June 29, 2001; and

WHEREAS, The City of Seattle desires to make application for this additional funding; Now, Therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE:

The Mayor and/or the Chief of Police is authorized to file an application on behalf of The City of Seattle with the United States Department of Justice, Executive Office for Weed and Seed for financial assistance in the approximate amount of Two Hundred Twenty Five Thousand Dollars ($225,000) for the purpose of continuing the Weed and Seed Program in Central Seattle.

The Mayor and/or the Chief of Police is authorized to furnish such additional information as the United States Department of Justice may require in connection with the grant application.
