A RESOLUTION in recognition of Mike Evans.

WHEREAS, Mike Evans, security chief at Horizon House and president of the Freeway Park Neighborhood Group has shown unflagging leadership, untiring energy and persistence in his concern over unsafe conditions and low pedestrian usage in Freeway Park; and

WHEREAS, thanks to Mike Evans's leadership, the Freeway Park Neighborhood Group rallied into action to successfully raise both cash and in-kind donations of materials and services from Downtown businesses which were combined with the Seattle Parks and Recreation Department's earmarked funds; and

WHEREAS, Freeway Park was thereby transformed from a dark, narrow pathway with poor visibility into a beautiful open space that connects the Downtown and First Hill neighborhoods; and

WHEREAS, the model collaboration among citizens, businesses and the Seattle Parks and Recreation

Department, all brought together by Mike Evans and his Freeway Park Neighborhood Group, has

resulted in national acclaim for illustrating the inventive possibilities of combining natural and urban

environments;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE, THAT:

Mike Evans be recognized as an Outstanding Citizen of Seattle and be herein given a hearty

"Thank You" from the City Council for showing that one citizen can truly make a difference.
