WHEREAS, the City of Seattle recognizes that the arts enhance and enrich the lives of Seattle residents; and,
WHEREAS, Seattle is a model for the nation in support of the arts, having recognized that a vibrant cultural community contributes to the economy, education and overall livability of the region; and,
WHEREAS, the Seattle Arts Commission, consisting of 15 citizen volunteers appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by City Council working together with professional staff, has provided support and leadership on behalf of the City in the arts for 25
years; and,
WHEREAS, the Seattle Arts Commission undertook a planning process involving arts supporters and residents to define its goals, objectives and strategies through 2001; and,
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the City to support the development, public awareness of and interest in the arts; NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE, THE MAYOR CONCURRING, AS FOLLOWS:
The Seattle Arts Commission's five-year strategic plan, ArtsPATH, is adopted as a basis for Arts Commission activity from 1996 through 2001, with implementation plans developed annually by the Commission. The Mayor and City Council will be informed
regularly of progress toward goals identified in ArtsPATH.
