WHEREAS, Easy Street Records has demonstrated stability, longevity, and active involvement in Seattle's music community; and
WHEREAS, Easy Street Records has embodied the diverse musical styles that Seattle produces, and is an essential part of the community in the way they spread and promote Northwest music; and
WHEREAS, Easy Street Records has provided employment for over 500 people, currently employs about 40 people, and is a place where musicians can work and be supported while trying to perfect their craft; and
WHEREAS, Since its founding 24 years ago, Easy Street Records has concentrated on the local community by throwing record release parties, hosting over 700 in-store performances, donating to local schools, and helping organize the West Seattle Street
Fair; and
WHEREAS, Easy Street Records has succeeded in competing with the chain stores that dominated the 1980s by allowing customers to sell and trade their used records, tapes, and CDs, and in doing so, increased their margins sufficiently to sell new
items at competitive prices; and
WHEREAS, Easy Street Records has been recognized for breaking new bands out of the Northwest, and for allowing young artists to be heard by promoting, selling, and stocking local music of all genres;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, MIKE MCGINN, Mayor of the City of Seattle,
do hereby proclaim December 20, 2012, to be
EASY STREET RECORDS DAY
in Seattle, and I encourage all citizens to join me in recognizing this extraordinary
company for their outstanding contributions to our community.
