WHEREAS, Seattle is the proud home of hundreds of Rotarians, including the fourth oldest Rotary Club and the largest international Club whose members are devoted to "Service Above Self;" and
WHEREAS through their time and treasure, Rotarians in District 5030 dedicate countless hours and millions of dollars to combat hunger, poverty, and illiteracy, often in the midst of global turmoil and economic hardships; and
WHEREAS Rotary Club members serve, befriend, and collaborate at many levels including vocational, community, and international, and give voluntarily regardless of cultural ties, ethnicity, or economic standing; and
WHEREAS Rotary Clubs spur innovative local, regional and global solutions to comfort and enrich the lives of others; and
WHEREAS members of Rotary International District 5030 contribute in myriad humanitarian ways to make the world a more equitable, prosperous, healthy, peaceful and sustainable place to live; and
WHEREAS, the Rotarians of Seattle and International District 5030, like the 73 Seattle-King County First Citizens who preceded them, exemplify leadership, volunteerism and dedication to strengthening our communities;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Michael McGinn, Mayor, hereby proclaim June 13, 2012 as
Rotary International District 5030 'First Citizen' Day in the City of Seattle
and urge all to join me in this special recognition of Rotary International District 5030 as First Citizens of Seattle-King County.
