· Summary of the Legislation:

The City Council’s resolution details policy goals and priorities for the appointment and confirmation of a new Chief of Police.  These goals and priorities include those that maintain and improve the foundations of the Police Department’s performance, as well as those that foster innovation and advance policing and public safety through effective evidence-based strategies.  

· Background:

This appointment by the Mayor is expected to be made by mid-2010 and the Council intends the Resolution to provide information of use to the Mayor and to the Mayor’s police chief search committee.
