Legislation Title:  A RESOLUTION concerning policies for the protection of trees on public and private property within the City of Seattle, stating the Council’s priorities for legislative and Departmental actions to increase the overall health, quality and the extent of trees within the City of Seattle.

 

 

Summary of the Legislation:

 

The Resolution calls on several departments to implement new measures to enhance tree protection efforts on public and private property. These measures include development of a tree permit for tree removal and protection on private property, expanding existing tree regulations on private property and adopting measures that implement recommendations from a May 2009 report from the City Auditors office on tree protection.

This Resolution is one in a series of legislative actions undertaken by the City Council to protect the city’s tree canopy on both public and private property. Recent efforts include an Ordinance adopting interim controls for tree removal on private property pending legislation from the Mayor adopting permanent controls (Ord 122919).
