Summary of the Legislation:

The proposed legislation adopts the “2005-2009 Strategic Plan on Seattle’s Criminal Justice Response to Domestic Violence.

Background

In 2003, the City completed an assessment of the City’s criminal justice response to domestic violence. This assessment identified a number of areas for enhancement. The City’s Domestic Violence Council then formed an inter-departmental team consisting of staff from various city departments. The team reviewed the findings and recommendations of the assessment and developed a draft document. The result is a five-year plan that identifies a number of strategies that make the services for victims of domestic violence and their children more accessible and batterers more accountable. Current local government resources are not adequate to implement the Plan fully. Therefore, HSD, in conjunction with its partners, will pursue public and private funding opportunities.
