Legislation Title:

A RESOLUTION updating the mission and composition of membership for the Domestic Violence Coordinating Council, and renaming it the Domestic Violence Prevention Council.

·        Summary of the Legislation:

The attached legislation revises the mission and expands the composition of the membership for the Domestic Violence Coordinating Council. It also proposes to rename the body to the Domestic Violence Prevention Council.

·        Background: (Include brief description of the purpose and context of legislation and include record of previous legislation and funding history, if applicable):

In 1995, the City passed legislation that established the mission and composition of the Domestic Violence Coordinating Council. This critical body brought together key stakeholders to develop new strategies and policies, and to effectuate coordination between agencies, City departments and courts to improve the response to domestic violence.  The Domestic Violence Prevention Council will expand its mission to explore innovative approaches employed by other jurisdictions to address domestic violence and to coordinate interdepartmental efforts to obtain grant funding.  The DVC will also shift from a representative membership structure to a positional membership structure to both strengthen leadership and to improve its overall direction.
