Legislation Title: |
A RESOLUTION approving the composition of the Citizens
Advisory Committee to consider the Master Plan for Swedish Medical Center. |
· Summary of the Legislation:
The attached legislation acknowledges Swedish Medical Center’s intent to complete a master plan for their campus and establishes a 12-member citizen advisory committee. The legislation authorizes the final composition of the committee through a Memorandum of Agreement with the institution, prepared by the Department of Neighborhoods. The advisory committee will advise the City and Swedish Medical Center regarding the development of an amended master plan for Swedish Medical Center in accordance with the process outlined in section 23.69.032 of the Seattle Municipal Code.
·
Background:
The City’s Land Use Code Chapter 23.69, Major Institutions
Overlay District establishes a process for authorizing and regulating the
growth of our major institutions – particularly our hospitals and universities
or community colleges. This Code
requires that an institution, in consultation with the Director of the
Department of Neighborhoods, recruit potential appointees to a Citizens
Advisory Committee composed of representatives of the local community and
others directly affected by the actions of the institution. The Executive is authorized to recommend to
the Council those individuals appropriate to achieve a balanced, independent
and representative committee.
