A RESOLUTION authorizing applications to the State of Washington for Federal Disaster Assistance Program funds to partially reimburse the City for costs attributable to the earthquake that occurred on February 28, 2001.
WHEREAS, an earthquake struck the Puget Sound region on February 28, 2001; and
WHEREAS, significant damage was sustained by City of Seattle facilities as a consequence of this earthquake; and
WHEREAS, as a result of a Presidential declaration of a major disaster, authorized by The Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act, Public Law 93-288, as amended, the State of Washington is authorized to administer and help fund a
Disaster Assistance Grant Program for eligible localities, including The City of Seattle; Now Therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE:
The Mayor is hereby authorized for and on behalf of The City of Seattle to execute and submit the necessary grant applications to the State of Washington, Military Department, Division of Emergency Management for such disaster assistance grant funds as
may be available under FEMA 1361-DR-WA, and the Mayor and/or the Manager of the Seattle Police Department Emergency Management Section, or a designated member of his staff, is further authorized to furnish such additional information as may be required
in connection with such applications and to act as the authorized Applicant Agent of the City in connection therewith.
