    CITY-HALL
    • ZD-4022
Seattle's City Halls have not always gone by that name. The first permanent City Hall, on 2nd Ave. between Yesler and Washington Streets, was destroyed in the Great Fire of 1889. The replacement for this building was the old King County courthouse at 3rd and Yesler, occupied by the City from 1891 to 1909. Next, City offices moved to the Yesler Building. After the City-County Building (now the King County Courthouse) was completed in 1916, most City offices moved there, leaving the Police, Fire and Health departments in the Yesler Building. In 1962 the offices in the City-County Building moved to the newly completed Municipal Building on 4th Avenue between James and Cherry. Seattle's latest City Hall is on 5th Avenue between James and Cherry, and was completed in 2003.
