ORDINANCE _________________
AN ORDINANCE relating to City streets, re-naming the 100-400 blocks of South Atlantic Street to Edgar Martinez Drive South.
WHEREAS, on October 3, 2004, Edgar Martinez played his last game as a Seattle Mariner, retiring after 18 remarkable seasons in Major League Baseball, all with the Mariners; and
WHEREAS, re-naming a portion of a street near Safeco Field would provide an appropriate and lasting legacy to recognize one of Seattle's true sports heroes; and
WHEREAS, the only abutting property owner of this street segment, the Public Facilities District, has indicated its support for the renaming of South Atlantic Street from 1st Avenue South to 4th Avenue South in honor of Edgar Martinez; and
WHEREAS, the relevant public safety and public utilities agencies have reviewed the proposal and agree that no significant, negative impacts would result from this action; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF SEATTLE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The name of the 100 400 block of South Atlantic Street is hereby changed to Edgar Martinez Drive South.
Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force thirty (30) days from and after its approval by the Mayor, but if not approved and returned by the Mayor within ten (10) days after presentation, it shall take effect as provided by Municipal
Code Section 1.04.020.
