Seattle Animal Shelter Adoption Fees
The Seattle Animal Shelter shall charge adoption fees based on the following chart:
Fee Type Species Fee Amount* Definition
Adoption fees Cat $ 75 Age: over 6 months or under 11 years
Kitten $ 125 Age: under 6 months old which is determined by the absence of adult canine teeth
Two kittens $ 200
Special needs cat $ 35 Age: 11 years or older; or
As designated by the Seattle Animal Shelter Director or their designee
Dog $ 275 Age: over 6 months or under 11 years
Puppy $ 375 Age: under 6 months old which is determined by the absence of adult canine teeth
Special needs dog $ 100 Age: 11 years or older; or
As designated by the Seattle Animal Shelter Director or their designee
Rabbit $ 40
Small mammals (e.g. guinea pig, rat, mouse, gerbil, hamster, hedgehog) $ 15
Ferret $ 40
Chinchilla $ 65
Sugar Glider $ 65
Domestic fowl (e.g. chicken, duck) $ 15
Farm animals varies As designated by the Seattle Animal Shelter Director or their designee
Iguana, tortoises, some snakes and other reptiles varies As designated by the Seattle Animal Shelter Director or their designee
Common Reptiles (e.g. bearded dragon, corn snake, leopard gecko) $ 15
Common Birds (e.g. parakeet, budgie, dove, finch) $ 15
Some birds (e.g. lovebird, macaw, parrot, parrotlet, cockatiel) varies As designated by the Seattle Animal Shelter Director or their designee
High interest fee varies As designated by the Seattle Animal Shelter Director or their designee
When the Seattle Animal Shelter Director or their designee determines an animal should be designated as "special needs" or "high interest" or sets a variable price, the following factors may be considered:
Typical value of the animal on the private market
Apparent medical or behavioral needs of the animal
Desirability based on the current or previous history of length of stay of the animal
All animals who have a variable or high interest fee will have a sign clearly posted displaying the adoption fee.
