A RESOLUTION adopting a Citywide Resource Conservation Management Plan.

WHEREAS, the City has set an ambitious target to be a carbon neutral community by 2050; and

WHEREAS, the City recognizes the need to be a leader by reducing the environmental impact of City operations and has adopted policies to address commute trip reductions, green fleets and sustainable building construction, among others; and

WHEREAS, the City owns more than 650 buildings totaling approximately 10 million square feet; and

WHEREAS, Capital departments have made significant investments in the energy and water efficiency of their facilities over the past years and where the City has made investments in energy efficiency buildings perform better; and

WHEREAS, the City has adopted a goal to achieve 20% energy savings in municipal buildings from a 2008 baseline by 2020; and

WHEREAS, a comprehensive strategy to guide energy efficiency and resource conservation investments across all departments and facilities is needed to achieve the 20% goal; NOW THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE, THE MAYOR CONCURRING, THAT:

Section 1. The City of Seattle Resource Conservation Management Plan, which is attached to this resolution, is hereby adopted as the City's framework for a 20% reduction in energy use in municipal buildings by 2020.

Section 2. The City directs the Office of Sustainability and Environment to coordinate interdepartmental implementation of the Resource Conservation Management Plan, annually monitor progress on plan outcomes, and update the plan as needed.
